Health app designed to engage users through increased healthful living styles are at the base of this innovation in clinical plan and trial design.

The design of the Health app was a collaborative effort between Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Apple Watch. The randomized trial is designed to determine if wearable technology can detect atrial fibrillation (AFib).

The trial objective is to help researchers improve clinical outcomes for people with AFib. The app may be able to motivate users to follow an active, healthful lifestyle and boost patient compliance to prescribed medicine.

Researchers may be able to answer whether anti-coagulants can improve outcomes following an AFib diagnosis, and whether these medications prevent strokes and more.

With ~ 150,000 participants, this will be a landmark trial. Designing innovative ways to conduct clinical plan and trials, experiencing use of wearable technology as well methodology can be merged in the SCIO process.
