Several of the approved to market COVID-19 vaccines are over 90% effective in preventing disease. But no much data have been available about whether vaccinated individuals can still transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus to others.

Researchers in Israel compared the viral loads of Covid-19 infected subjects that were either unvaccinated or had received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Data suggest that viral load is reduced 4-fold for infections occurring 12–28 days after the first dose of vaccine.

Israel’s rollout of the Pfizer vaccine on December 19. Since then, more than half of its eligible population—about 3.5 million people—have received one or both doses.

In people aged over 60 there was a decline in new cases of 53% and in severe of >30%.
